Board of Director Position
PGA WEST Residential Association is one of three homeowner’s associations in PGA WEST. The Association property is on two famous golf courses, Arnold Palmer and Stadium, covering approximately 300 acres. The complex comprises a combination of over 1,400 custom homes and condominiums, with 54 community swimming pools and spas and 5 lakes totaling 20 acres. The Association is unique to other PGA WEST associations because it has its own maintenance facilities, equipment and a 29 member staff under a $11 million operating budget.
The seven member Board of Directors oversees the affairs and business of the Association. The Board sets policy initiatives, which are generally carried out on a day-to-day basis by the Association’s management personnel. Board members are active weekly throughout the year committing time and physical presence as officers and serving on committees.
Board Duties:
- Management of the Association’s finances.
- Enforcement of the Association’s governing documents.
- Maintenance, repair and replacement of common area components.
- Operation and management of the common area facilities and amenities.
- Execution of Fiduciary duties in accordance with the “business judgement rule” as per California Corporation Code §7231.
- Sign and adhere to the Board of Director’s Code of Conduct.
Board Member Responsibilities:
- Know and follow the rules of governance as per Civil Code commonly referred to as Davis-Stirling Common Interest Development Act.
- Learn and develop an understanding of HOA operations including CC&Rs, Bylaws, Policies, Architectural Guidelines, community layout, common areas, housing types, budget history, contract management, role of Management and employees and role of committees.
- Prepare for and contribute to all BOD meetings.
- Learn and understand the relationships between PGA WEST Residential Association (Res I), PGA WEST II Residential, Fairways Association, Master Association and PGA WEST Club.
- Be willing to attend Master Association meetings.
- Serve on at least one committee which include Architectural, Investment, Compensation, Landscape & Pools, Trash Violations, Communications, Compliance, Gates & Patrol and Nominating.
- Learn and understand the roles of Board Officers and prepare to serve as an officer.
- Learn about local city and county initiatives that impact the community.
- Be willing to lead a special project that arises such as website upgrade, Bighorn Sheep Barrier location, gate replacement, paint color selection, traffic study, long term landscape and water use planning, succession planning, etc.
- Observe and submit work orders concerning community safety and compliance issues such as: leaking pools, malfunctioning pool equipment, downed trees, parking, trash, vandalism, noise, lighting, sprinklers to extend and supplement the Operations work force.
- Objectively listen to and act on behalf of individual homeowners in accordance with established practices and in compliance with the governing documents for the best outcomes of the community as a whole.
- Offer ideas to improve processes and procedures for the benefit the community.
Qualifications:
- Volunteer experience with an organization of commensurate complexity and scale
- Understanding of finance and budget oversight
- Project management and analysis skills
- Conflict resolution skills and a willingness to consider multiple viewpoints and reach compromise
- Presentation skills
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to contribute where needed across roles
