Some Thoughts
Who am I?
My wife Liz and I have been a homeowners here in PGA West for 15 years, and have lived on Southern Hills permanently since retiring in January 2016. We love the ambience, location and people here in PGA.
We lived previously in Glendale, California, where I was active for over 10 years in our Homeowners Association, serving as a Block Director, Liaison to the City and eventually as President of the Association. During that time I represented our homeowners before the various city agencies by presenting to the City Council on matters as diverse as taxes, emergency resources, property development, city planning and neighborhood security. The thing I most enjoyed was communicating with the homeowners in our community and ensuring their message was delivered to the Council and various planning agencies.
In my professional life, I was an engineer who worked in the Media Industry. I have been a founder and Board Member of several startup companies, ranging from small 10 person startups to multinational media service providers operating from the US, UK, Canada and Singapore. My LinkedIn bio is here. I have extensive experience in program and project management, as well as expertise in building construction and property management, software development and operations management. I have also worked extensively in corporate mergers and acquisitions where I was responsible for technology development and deployment, operations, financial planning, company integration and strategic planning.
I believe I can use these skills to preserve the quality of life we have here in PGA, while also helping to build an even stronger community by constructively addressing and resolving the current issues facing us as residents.
My Candidate Statement
My name is Gavin Schutz, and I am a former Res 1 Board member. My wife Liz and I have owned a house here for 14 years and have lived here permanently for over 7 years. - Extensive experience in mediation, project management, budgeting, and corporate management allowing me to be an active and effective contributor to the Res 1 Team.
- Excellent working knowledge of all our HOA governing documents, including local, City, County and State rules and regulations.
Goals:
- I will work to act in the best interests of all homeowners.
- I will Communicate openly, effectively, and collaboratively – by listening to and acting on the concerns of Res 1 Homeowners, as well as ensuring the homeowners are informed about Board issues and actions that will affect them.

For example, because our community is showing signs of age, I believe effective long-range planning, environmental refreshing and updating of infrastructure are becoming increasingly important.
