Q: Is being a full-time resident an advantage?

A. There are a couple of reasons why the community is better served by having full time residents on the Board:

1.  Board members approve millions of dollars in contracts each year for services like landscaping, street repairs and repaving, roof maintenance, lake upkeep and other critical needs.  The Board needs to have eyes on these areas of concern first-hand – to work with Association management and ensure the scope of work the work being performed is within scope, budget and on time.
2. Many, many things happen that we have no control over…either the event itself or its timing;  i.e., a meeting to hear an insurance proposal is cancelled the day of the presentation…rescheduled for three days later.  A potential vendor for replacing our gates calls to say they have samples for the three-member ad hoc gate committee to look at and can bring them over tomorrow morning at 10.  It’s hard enough to get all the moving parts in sync without having to worry about board members flying or driving in from other parts of the country to participate.  Either that or they don’t participate at all.

Q. Why should I vote for Gavin rather than the challengers in this election?

A. I believe the best path forward for Res 1 is to develop Good Neighbor policies that enable full time residents, seasonal residents and investor owners to live in harmony throughout our community. Because of my previous time serving on the Res I (and Master Association) Boards, I have proven experience in delivering cost-efficiencies in vendor contracts, reliable maintenance programs, consistent rules enforcement, and affordable vendor standards for the benefit of all owners. I am in favor of a workable balance by which all property owners can enjoy the many plusses of owning at PGA WEST.

Q: How much time will you spend on Association business?

A. In addition to Res I Board meetings, each Board member actively participates in Committee work – on Res I Committees, Master association Committees, or often both. Active Committees include: Landscape, Architectural, Financial Advisory, MA Board, Compliance, Pools and Trash.

Depending on the level of commitment, it is not uncommon to spend between 8 – 10 hours a week on Board and Committee business. This is another reason being a full time resident is advantageous for representing the Res I community.

Q. What is the role of security officers at our entrance gates?

A. All residential entry gates are staffed by a private company hired for that specific task. Their contract is with the Master Association, not Res 1, Res 2 or Fairways.  Besides controlling access and issuing guest passes, they also patrol all residential areas to enforce the CCR&Rs (Combined Community Rules and Regulations.)  They are not sworn law enforcement officers and cannot enforce La Quinta city laws.
